Owner/Lead Sales Manager

About 11 years ago, I was working in South Texas in Port Isabel as the Operations and Business Development Manager at a small port that used to be the “Banana” dock for Chiquita Banana. An investment group signed a 50-year lease and began transforming the dock and surrounding area into an oil and gas terminal. I flew back and forth from Houston a few times a week. One week, my fiancé (now wife) and I got married on her lunch break at a courthouse because waiting three more months unmarried seemed like an eternity. Her boss told her not to return to work, so we went to a free concert downtown. The next day, I flew back to Brownsville for a ship fuel-up and realized that balancing travel and a newlywed life wasn’t working for me. I mentioned this to my friend Dave Tenhave over lunch a few days later, and he asked if he could give my contact information to a friend who was starting a company. The next day, I received a call from Jimmy “the Knife” Vitelli, who invited me to his office to make me an omelet, interview me, and ask for my resume. The omelet was great, but the job wasn’t quite what I had in mind. When Jimmy mentioned that I would need to knock on doors and set appointments with potential customers, I was ready to run. But then he said something that made me pause: “Are you afraid to knock on doors? And do you always say no to things you’re afraid of?” That got me thinking. It was a part-time job, so I figured I’d build my communication skills and look for oil and gas-related opportunities when I wasn’t working. And that’s how I ended up in the window biz.
